Project Liaison Availability
The project liaison (may also be the beneficiary) must be available to communicate with the design team. The design team will need new information periodically, and the project liaison should respond to requests within 24 hrs. Delays will hurt deisgn team productivity and morale. Liaisons must be cooperative with and responsive to the requests from the design team.
The Process is Cyclic
Students initially meet with the liaison and/or beneficiary to gather information about design goals/criteria. They draft these and submit them to the liaison to assure they are complete. Also, early prototypes may be presented to the liaison and/or beneficiary to get feedback, and thus cyclically improve the design concept. Also, there is not guarantee of a fully successful prototype.
Students Own Intellectual Property
Students and Faculty of the University of Kansas retain all intellectual property rights associated with innovations developed during the design process. While the beneficiary receives the final prototype, they do not have unrestricted right to reproduce or distribute copies of the prototype. In some cases, multiple copies of the prototype may be provided, as appropriate.
